Prysm App Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Prysm mobile application and the website at prysmapp.com (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our Service.

By using Prysm, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, sexual orientation, pronouns, and photos you upload
  • Profile Content: Bio, interests, relationship goals, daily question answers, and any other content you add to your profile
  • Communications: Messages you send and receive through the app, reports you submit, and support requests
  • Payment Information: Subscription and purchase data processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store (we do not directly store credit card numbers)
  • Referral Information: Referral codes you generate or use, and the first name of users you refer

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: App opens, features used, swipe activity, time spent in the app, and interaction patterns
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, IP address, and mobile network information
  • Location Data: Approximate location based on IP address or, with your permission, precise location for distance-based matching
  • Analytics Data: Crash reports, performance data, and anonymized usage statistics

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account
  • To match you with other users based on compatibility, interests, location, and preferences
  • To calculate and display compatibility scores based on your daily question answers
  • To deliver messages between matched users
  • To process subscriptions and in-app purchases
  • To send push notifications about matches, messages, and app updates
  • To enforce our Community Guidelines and 3-Strike safety system
  • To detect and prevent fraud, fake accounts, and abuse
  • To improve our Service through analytics and user feedback
  • To manage the referral program and deliver referral rewards
  • To display relevant advertisements to free-tier users

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect information about you:

  • Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, file storage, analytics, crash reporting, cloud messaging, and remote configuration
  • RevenueCat: Subscription and in-app purchase management
  • Google AdMob: Advertising for free-tier users (collects device identifiers and ad interaction data)
  • Apple App Store / Google Play Store: Payment processing for subscriptions and purchases

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing their use of your data. We encourage you to review their policies.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • With Other Users: Your profile information, photos, interests, compatibility scores, and birth month color are visible to other users as part of the matching experience. Only matched users can see your messages.
  • Referral Program: If you use a referral code, your first name is visible to the person who referred you.
  • Service Providers: With third-party services listed above, strictly for providing our Service
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or legal process
  • Safety: If we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent harm to you or others

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud Platform) with enterprise-grade encryption in transit and at rest. We implement industry-standard security measures including secure authentication, access controls, and regular security reviews.

While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights and Choices

6.1 Access and Correction

You can access and update most of your personal information directly through the app’s profile and settings screens.

6.2 Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings within the app. When you delete your account, all your personal data, matches, messages, and photos are permanently removed. There are no retention games. Note that phone numbers and email addresses from deleted accounts are held for 6 months to prevent abuse.

6.3 Notification Preferences

You can manage push notification preferences in the app’s settings or through your device settings.

6.4 Location

You can revoke location permissions through your device settings at any time. This may limit distance-based matching features.

6.5 Advertising

Free-tier users see advertisements. You can upgrade to Flow or Momentum to remove ads. You can also limit ad personalization through your device’s privacy settings.

7. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information
  • The right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data)
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

8. European Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights including:

  • The right to access your personal data
  • The right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • The right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • The right to restrict processing
  • The right to data portability
  • The right to object to processing

Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (provided when creating an account) and our legitimate interest in providing and improving the Service.

9. Children’s Privacy

Prysm is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we discover that a child under 18 has created an account, we will immediately delete it and all associated data.

10. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed, with the following exceptions:

  • Phone numbers and email addresses are retained in a hashed format for 6 months to prevent fraudulent re-registration
  • Anonymized analytics data may be retained for service improvement
  • Data required for legal compliance may be retained as required by law

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of Prysm after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
